The New Facebook Office

Facebook recently moved their offices out of several smaller locations spread throughout Palo Alto, CA and into one central, 150,000-square-foot building that used to house Agilent Technologies. Many of the building’s original features either remain or have been repurposed for Facebook’s use.

The space was designed by studio o+a who took time to interview employees to see what they wanted and what would make their work experience better and more productive. Employees collaborated with designers throughout the entire process to ensure the best product possible. Because of the differing departmental needs, small neighborhoods within the building were created giving each department its own unique flavor and vibe.

The company has remained committed to providing free gourmet meals, snacks, and drinks in micro-kitchens located throughout the building. In order to keep the company agile and fresh, employees are encouraged to write on walls, add artwork, and move furniture as they see fit. If I worked there, I’d move my furniture into Mark Zuckerberg’s offices and then challenge him to a game of ping-pong or basketball on the company tables and court.

the making of : iQ Agility Font

The iQ Agility Font is a really cool project. The Belgian advertising agency Happiness Brussels asked Pierre Smeets and Damien Aresta of pleaseletmedesign to create a typeface with a Toyota iQ. They collaborated with Stef van Campenhoudt, a pro race pilot, who had to drive all the characters with the iQ. Zachary Liebermanwrote a custom software to track the movements of the car and translate them into single characters. Of course you can download the font for free here. You can find some making of pictures in this Flickr set.

555 KUBIK Facade Projection

555 KUBIK was the title of a facade video projection at the Kunsthalle in Hamburg (Germany), taking place last May. The idea behind it was: “How it would be, if a house was dreaming”. Daniel Rossawas responsible for the art direction and decided to use some visualisations of the inside of the building together with other animations. The facade isn’t that exciting itself, but the projection takes it to a new level.

Artek at the Venice Biennale

Artek is honoured to be the sponsor of La Biennale di Venezia and realises part of the furniture and furnishings for the premises of Palazzo delle Exposizioni della Biennale. The assignment included a bookshop, a cafeteria and additional furniture elements for an educational area, that were submitted respectively by three artists, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Tobias Rehberger and Massimo Bartolini, all selected for the 53rd International Art Exhibition.

Tobias Rehberger was awarded the Golden Lion as best artist at the 53rd International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. Tobias Rehberger received the price for the cafeteria, for which he collaborated closely with Artek using customized Artek furniture in an ingenious way.

Artek’s founding manifest from the year 1935 is based on the symbiosis between art, technology and architecture. The partnership with the Venice Biennale is thus perfectly in line with Artek’s ideology.
