Sustainable Towers in Malaysia - less CO2 emissions

The winner of a recent contest, the design for Precinct 4 comes from Studio Nicoletti Associati and Malaysian architects Hijjas Kasturi Associates, who provided the masterplan of Putrajaya. The goal of the designers was to provide a model for sustainable residential design that was inspired by the city’s unique landscape which includes an expansive artificial lake. The biggest inspiration came from the sea and the entire development resembles a fleet of ships.

The architect’s goal was to design buildings that tell “of its place of origin which is culturally modern, Islamic and tropical in nature.” Added to this is Nicoletti’s extensive experience in design and construction for extreme climates. For Precinct 4, the Italian firm brought sustainable strategies like terraces, sunshades, natural ventilation and integrated green space into the design. The buildings will source from alternative energy and are expected to produce 50% less CO2 emissions than similar residential projects.

What makes designer success– University Degrees OR Natural Talent?

Now a day, we can find many people out there who have successfully obtained their design or art degrees from universities or colleges can become a “good” designers, but will they be able to become a “great” designers without innate thing we call “talent”?.

I think the design degree is a constructive stage of perfection to become designer but if we lack the imaginative talent, we can’t be excellent designer.

However, many of us strongly think that an individual can be whatever he wants to be, no matter if they are not given with natural talent, fundamental requirement to achieve success as designers is just practise, motivation and determination.

But for me, to become an excellent designer, “Talent” is an essential requirement after obtain the design or art degree...

The Window Phone

Thousands of phones running on the Windows OS but this phone is not be confused as a member of the WinMo contingent. It is indeed the Window Phone Concept which is capable of transforming its look replicating the window under different weather conditions. Created by Seunghan Song this phone reflects the outside weather on its form which is basically a thin and transparent plastic sheet. It remains clear on a sunny day, it shows droplets of water and looks humid on a rainy day and on snowy days it will look foggy. As a basic device it is a touchscreen which supports handwriting recognition. This phone is made of stuff dreams are made of and even then, I would love possessing something like this one day.

The Windows Phone has a large touchscreen – in fact, it looks like it’s just a big, transparent touchscreen.

Now and Beyond : How Graphic Design Would Be In The Future

Currently, graphics design is limited to 2-dimensional space by technology and even the human perception. Graphics of all kinds have been 2-dimensional and the human mind has come to accept that as standard.

The future's graphics designer may be asked to build graphics that would not only be 3D, but visually appealing, efficient and recognizable in business.

The advent of holographic projection and the inception of multi-point displays have left the field of graphics design in the dust. By combining the two, and having much larger scale systems, users could eventually be placed INTO the display instead of in front of it.

Using multi-point displays, as seen in the movie Minority Report, graphics remain in 2D, but by integrating holographic projection and making the 2D display become a 3D walk-in environment, the need for 3D graphics would be immense.
